Jigsaw company details:
Description of this company available at Jigsaw.com.
In June 2005, ten principals wanted to build a technically superior hosting service for those customers continuing to evolve in their IT needs. Spending months brainstorming ideas and architectures, the team looked to address all the challenges in the current hosted solutions available. SoftLayer was born. While creating and designing a new method of hosting previously unknown, it became clear that numerous systems and technical strategies must be combined to create this new service. Through the use of public and private networks, the foundation of SoftLayer was created - network-within-the-network design. In this design, each server has two network interfaces with each interface connected to a separate fully redundant routed network. With a complex set of systems designed to create an environment that is easily managed from the remote user perspective, the end goal of absolute control in terms of management and administration has been achieved.

Addicted to SoftLayer … And SoftLayer Customers
May 15, 2012
Chris Gardner (of The Pursuit of Happyness fame) said, “Find something that you love. Something that gets you so excited you can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning. Forget about money. Be happy.” Now I can’t honestly tell you I’m able to “forget about money” or that I’m much of a morning...
Synergy and Cloud – Going Beyond the Buzzwords
May 14, 2012
Citrix Synergy 2012 took over San Francisco this week. Because Citrix is one of SoftLayer’s technology partners, you know we were in the house, and I thought I’d share a few SoftLayer-specific highlights from the conference. Before I get too far, I should probably back up give you a little context for what the show...
The SoftLayer API and its ‘Star Wars’ Sibling
May 10, 2012
When I present about the SoftLayer API at conferences and meetups, I often use an image that shows how many of the different services in the API are interrelated and connected. As I started building the visual piece of my presentation, I noticed a curious “coincidence” about the layout of the visualization: What does that...

Syncing (Not Sinking) with SoftLayer
May 07, 2012
I’ve been with SoftLayer for two months now, but somehow I still find myself in the “honeymoon phase” of company pride and spirit. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to compete in the 12th Annual Texas Dragon Boat Race with many of my coworkers, and I learned that teamwork is more than just “working well together.”...
From “Computer Guy” to SoftLayer Server Build Technician
May 04, 2012
As I sat down to brainstorm ideas for this blog, I began to think about where I was when I started a few years ago and where I am now. When I was hired, I knew next to nothing about the inner-workings of data center IT. I was just your average computer nerd, or “the...
Social Media and the SoftLayer Server Challenge
May 02, 2012
I’ve been working at SoftLayer for almost ten months now, in my relatively short tenure, I’ve written hundreds (if not thousands) of tweets covering a broad range of topics and events … As a Social Media Coordinator, it’s an integral part of my job. Given what I’ve learned about hosting in the past year, I’m...
SoftLayer, Entrepreneurship and the White House
May 01, 2012
The past two weeks have been HUGE for the SoftLayer community development team and our Catalyst Program. Choosing a Cloud: Which Cloud Chooses You?
Apr 23, 2012
It’s not easy to choose a cloud hosting provider. Choosing a Cloud: Cost v. Technology v. Hosting Provider
Apr 20, 2012

Last week, the SoftLayer team attended ad:tech San Francisco. HTML5 – Compatibility for All?
Apr 12, 2012
Many of us remember when Flash was the “only” way to enhance user experience and create rich media interactivity. It was a bittersweet integration, though … Many users didn’t have the browser compatibility to use it, so some portion of your visitors were left in the dark. Until recently, that user base was relatively small...

Of Cage Nuts and Customer Service

Sometimes it’s the little hardships and annoyances that really mold you. How do you react? Do you manage to work through them, or do you let them eat away at you to the point that you’re more paralyzed by them than you are a bigger problem? As a new hire, I was required to take...
Sharing a Heavy Load – New Load Balancer Options
Apr 04, 2012
I always think of Ford, Chevy and Toyota pick-up truck commercials when I think of load balancers. The selling points for trucks invariably boil down to performance, towing capacity and torque, and I’ve noticed that users evaluating IT network load balancers have a similar simplified focus. The focus is always about high performance, scalability, failover...
