Description of this company available at
In June 2005, ten principals wanted to build a technically superior hosting service for those customers continuing to evolve in their IT needs. Spending months brainstorming ideas and architectures, the team looked to address all the challenges in the current hosted solutions available. SoftLayer was born. While creating and designing a new method of hosting previously unknown, it became clear that numerous systems and technical strategies must be combined to create this new service. Through the use of public and private networks, the foundation of SoftLayer was created - network-within-the-network design. In this design, each server has two network interfaces with each interface connected to a separate fully redundant routed network. With a complex set of systems designed to create an environment that is easily managed from the remote user perspective, the end goal of absolute control in terms of management and administration has been achieved.

The tool also allows customers to read and follow updates.
Does physical location matter “in the cloud”?
Dec 17, 2014
By now everyone understands that the cloud is indeed a place on Earth, but there still seems to be confusion around why global expansion by way of adding data centers is such a big deal. After all, if data is stored “in the cloud,” why wouldn’t adding more servers in our existing data centers suffice? Well, there’s a much more significant reason for adding more data centers than just being able to host more data.

Password Managers: One Password To Rule Them All
Dec 10, 2014
From banking to social media to gaming, the amount of accounts we have today is growing out of control. Let’s be honest—it’s easy to use the same password or a variation of the same password for all online accounts, but if a hacker can break one of those passwords, they are one step closer to hacking every account. Who really has the memory to store all those passwords anyway? That’s where a password manager can help. It controls access by storing (online or locally) every password in an encrypted file that is only accessible by one strong master password.

The Dallas Startup Scene – It’s Hot and Getting HOTTER!
Dec 02, 2014
Dallas came into existence prior to the country of Texas being admitted into the United States. From its early origins, Dallas prided itself on being on the cutting edge of business. When the railroads began crisscrossing the country to take people north and south and east and west, Dallas quickly positioned itself as the center of activity—no railroad company could pass that up.

Remember the days when cellular companies charged additional fees for calls placed during peak hours or for text messages that exceeded your plan? The good news is those days are pretty much over for cellular services thanks to unlimited text and data plans. The bad news is there are cloud and hosting providers who adhere to those same old billing practices of charging customers for every single communication their severs send or receive.

SoftLayer and AWS: What's the Difference?
Oct 28, 2014
People often compare SoftLayer with Amazon Web Services (AWS). It’s easy to understand why. We’ve both built scalable infrastructure platforms to provide cloud resources to the same broad range of customers—from individual entrepreneurs to the world’s largest enterprises. But while the desire to compare is understandable, the comparison itself isn’t quite apt. The SoftLayer platform is fundamentally different from AWS. In fact, AWS could be run on SoftLayer. SoftLayer couldn’t be run on AWS.
